Can it be a little bit more?
Miniature toy shops of the time of the economic miracle
(of the 50s/60s in Germany)
An exhibition of the Grafschafter Museum
in the Castle of Moers

"Perhaps some hair cream, too?" ask collector Jörg Bohn and head of the museum Diana Finkele.
They are standing inside one of the shops built exclusively for the exhibition in life size and children were expressly wished to play in it. On the counter you can see the original shop in miniature.
Jörg Bohn is the famous dollhouse collector with an extraordinary large and fine collection which he shares with us on his website www.puppenhausmuseum.de
All displayed shops can be seen there, too, but it was a great experience to see them in reality - that is why I visited the exhibition twice.

Das ist mein Foto vom obigen Kaufmannsladen.
That is my photo of the shop.

... and the minitature version on www.puppenstubenmuseum.de

Another shop in life-size with me standing behind the counter...

...derselbe Laden in der Vitrine...
...and the same shop in its small version in the showcase...

...and on Jörg Bohn's website.
Underneath one of my favourites, quite an empty supermarket with self-service sign above a mirror at the end of the gangway, and three different coloured racks on the sides.

Bodo Hennig Schlafzimmerstube 60er Jahre - 60s bedroombox by Bodo Hennig

My last one-room box of Bodo Hennig so far. They all are from the 60s.
After showing two livingrooms, this last one is a bedroom, all furniture of Hennig of course - although I am not so sure about the floor lamp.

Das Schiebefenster kann man öffnen.
The sliding window can be opened.

The Erna Meyer girl is babysitting three toddlers, one of them is sitting in a metal high chair (which is not of Bodo Hennig either.)

No, the feet are not amputated, it should look like naked feet but it does not.

Erna Meyer toddler twins - perfectly dressed for this pink room.

Tipp Blechpuppenhaus - 1961 - tin dollshouse by Tipp or Mettoy

It is very seldom to get a doll's house which is yet very old but nearly unchanged. This little house in a smaller than Lundby scale is made of tin but in very good condition. There is an short english description of it in an ad of 1961 at the end of the post.

Some pieces of the furniture and the family have survived the years. The doors and windows of acrylic glass can be opened.

The house could be illuminated, the cables went through the chimney. The chimney on the house is missing.

Please note Rebecca's information about the firm at the end of the post - very interesting.

Die Frau steht in seltsam provokanter Pose - was soll es wohl ausdrücken? Guckt Euch mein tolles Haus an?
Unusual pose of the woman - what does it mean? Look at my fabulous house?

My favourite room - Mein Lieblingszimmer

A folding roof permits a better view of the upper rooms. Here, the friendly children's room and the empty bathroom. I think it was a good idea to separate the rooms by acrylic glass thus gaining more light.

And finally Rebecca's research results about the german firm Tipp:

Rebecca's Collections Pro User sagt:

I'm not sure why it says one-storied!
Fascinating that this was made at the same time by both Tipp in Germany and Mettoy in Britain. I know that Ullmann and Katz, who founded Tipp, moved to Britain in the 30s and founded Mettoy, but I haven't read about post-war history of Tipp. Now I've just found a website which has some history of Tipp & Co, and says "After the War Ullmann regained control of Tipp & Co in 1948 and with his son Henry managed the two toy firms." So no wonder they could make the same models!
The link is www.dhub.org/object/40865 and it's actually part of the Powerhouse Museum (in Sydney) website!

Kleines Gottschalk Haus - Schlafzimmervarianten - two different bedrooms again

This house had a different bedroom during the past years than could be seen in my last post. It is in an old-fashioned design which could even be from the 30s.

The modern 50s furniture with two different colours of wood, a large cupboard on graceful legs, irregular dot pattern and asymmetric dressing table.

You can see the beautiful patterned linoleum here.

In the picture book of about 1959 is another little Gottschalk dolls house on the cover and it is inhabited by a lot of Erna Meyer dolls as well.

A dollshouse which has not been changed much since the 50s. On the right a flight of winding stairs is missing which led to the veranda above. Grandmother and grandfather of Erna Meyer are sitting there on a bench instead.

On the balcony are two old wooden dolls from Lotte Sievers.

Trendy furniture of both rooms, the bedroom with a dot pattern and the chairs with an unusual pattern, too.
