50er 60er Plastikküche Progress - 50s 60s plastic kitchen by Progress

Marked with PW, said to mean Progress-Werke, but I have found nothing about the firm until now. Not even in Swantje Köhlers "Lexikon der Puppenstuben".

Küche in Originalverpackung, nämlich brüchigem Zellophan.
I had already the fridge and one chair in my collection, the fridge's lock is broken - it is a very frail lock. But now 4 pieces in mint condition, unpacked by me!
Überhaupt nicht vergilbt, wie selten.
Fantastic colour, too, after all these years, not a bit yellow like my old battered fridge.

Hier sieht man das empfindliche Kühlschrankschloss.
Here you can see the tender lock of the fridge.

Spülbecken mit geschlossener Abdeckung.  Geöffnet.
Sink covered.   Sink opened.

1956 Eine Puppenstube für Gisela - 1956 A roombox for Gisela

Sorry, dear not-german-speaking reader, but this post is about the dollhouse chapter in a german craft-and-play-book for children. The older brother wants to surprise his sister Gisela with this selfmade roombox. Perhaps the drawings say it all?

VERO dollhouse - model WARNA

frenchplaymo is a new member on flickr and she asked me for information on this dolls house she recently saw on (french?) ebay and fell in love with but did not get it because it got very expensive.
That is the picture she sent me:

THis picture I found on Sylvias excellent collector's website, she recently bought it with the original box but has not put it together yet.
PUPPENHAUS "WARNA" VON VERO 1970

A very similar house of this series is "Seeblick" - "Sea view"

And finally further models put on ebay in the past:
Note the logo "Germany" - opposite to "West-Germany" logos of that time.

History:
After the Second World War and the sudden existence of West-Germany and East-Germany, every old toy producing firm began anew. While many West-German firms would soon profit by the "German Economic Wonder" of the 50s and 60s East-German traditional toy manufacturers had to react according to the political changes in the now communistic country. Those small enterprises were not the first concern of the new government, but after socializing the more important industries, in the 50s and 60s there was a lot of pressure on small independent manufactorers to give up and join the nationally-owned enterprises (political pressure, denunciation, no raw materials, no foreign or national market, rising taxes). By the by most of them gave in and in 1972 the remaining ones were finally disowned by law (Paul Hübsch, Moritz Gottschalk, Albin Schönherr).
VEB VERO Olbernhau was the nationally-owned entreprise which gathered from 1966 on all toy-related firms (former 98 individual manufacturers). The products were distributed by the nationally-owned DEMUSA in Berlin. After the German reunification the firm still existed until 1998.
Interesting for collectors: from 1972 until 1990 every toy in East-Germany was produced by VERO - because there was no one else left. Many excellent progressive designers worked for VERO and as the products were distributed mainly on foreign markets - to get the much needed foreign currencies - VERO dollhouses are found in every country.

Additions and corrections are welcome!

50er Jahre Schule mit Caco Puppen - part 3 - 50s schoolroom with Caco dolls

Und zum Schluss: Hinter den Kulissen
And finally the: Making of

Instead of looking for a new wallpaper I took cardboard for the walls, just loosely fixed with pins because I was always hoping for a real school room. But they are so hard to find.

I wanted to replace the new panels by old material and recently found some very old and very cheap books with very boring content. Perfect - although tearing old books apart is not easy for a book lover..

A few pictures on the wall are still missing - what will look right? That part of decorating is the most amusing one... In this wooden box I have collected many items of old learn-to-read-games.

Fertig.
Finished - for now. Until there will be some nicer accessoires, a more beautiful doll or even a real schoolroom box with two windows...

This roombox has a long history, too:
Plastic dolls by Ari, broken blackboard on a dresser table, missing abacus and teacher's chair.

So stellte ich sie 2007 in flickr vor.
In 2007 I put this photo on flickr.

Fototermin - photo session

Yesterday evening I had my first photo session at my friend's. Unfortunately she has neither time nor the photo equipment to take photos of her collection - but I think it is a shame nobody can see her wonderful collection. By and by I will show her dollhouses now on my flickr-site.

50er Jahre Schule mit Caco Puppen - part 2 dolls - 50s schoolroom with Caco dolls

Most Caco dolls in the school are from the 50s. They all have metal hands and feet. These three girls have "real" hair and each doll wears a sunday dress: fine cloth, little flowery applications and puff sleeves.

The smaller kids have molded hair, fashionable spotted patterns on their clothes and the boy wears a satchel - made of modelling clay - original?

The teacher is quite simply dressed in a white blouse with a grey felt skirt.
Another photo of the teacher

Her hair dressing is very rarely seen: curls

And at last the oldest of them all, a Caco from the 30s with a wig of pigtails and an original satchel on the back.

50er Jahre Schule mit Caco Puppen - part 1 - 50s schoolroom with Caco dolls

A roombox of the 50s which serves as a schoolroom. With original floor paper, paint and window with drapes, just the painting on the walls had faded and is now covered with panels made of thick paperboard.

School desks, teacher's desk, board and abacus came as a set which can be seen very often in german miniature school rooms. The oven, shelf and cupboard were added.

On the cupboard are two very old miniature dictionaries.

Two promotional plastic birds from the 50s, beneath four wooden books which are glued  on the shelf. The shell, the stone and the dried starfish I found at the sea.

More photos on flickr No.1 No.2 No.3 No.4

A long time ago the original box with its contents was on sale on ebay. The manufacturer's logo: Wichtelmarke.

60er 70er Jahre Biegepuppen - Caco - 60s 70s flexible dolls

My two inhabitants of the dining room of 1970 wear very respectable clothing, the man with suit and tie, the woman with a long silk skirt. Do they really fit into this room or are they from the end of the 70s?

It is a pity that there is no date on the box but the doll's fashion on it points to the 60s - perhaps my pair is in its right environment after all.

Rotes Esszimmer - Modella 1970 - Red dining room

This dining room is of 1970 and represents the design of the 60s. A typical Modella display box which enabled the girl to begin playing at once, even when she had no doll house. The single pieces could also be taken out of the cheap cardboard box to furnish an empty doll house. That is why many of those charming printed boxes did not survive.

I also have the blue version which was sold a couple of years later. The tea trolley on the left is missing and the chairs are not the original ones.

The zebra pattern of the carpet is a typical feature of the 70s.
It is me, smiling in the mirror...

I found some very similar decorated dining rooms in my old magazines.

Sieht nach Süddeutschland aus, oder? - Bavaria?

Two slightly different versions of this room. Above with a differnt carpet and view, below a smaller dining room.

As I have finished my project of taking pictures of all my Bodo Hennig items and gathering all information about him, I am now ready to start with a new subject:  Modella, a firm owned by Paul Kerkmann, a manufacturer whose roomboxes and plastic furniture were wellknown and widespread just like Bodo Hennig's - but surely regarded as toys with less value being out of plastic.
