Auguste, the maid:

Auguste.

Auguste ist zwar nur vom Land,

Doch kann sie jetzt schon allerhand:

Kocht, wäscht und bügelt, näht und flickt,

Wobei sie abends Streifen stickt.

Sie geht sehr gern zum Einkauf aus,

Kommt meistens dann zu spät nach Haus,

Und sagt, schilt deshalb die Mama,

„Es waren so viel Leute da.“

Auch fährt sie manchmal in die Stadt,

Besonders, wenn sie „Ausgang“ hat,

Verwandte wohnen hier am Ort,

Nussknackers, die besucht sie dort.

Sonst ist sie voller Treu’ und Fleiß,

Ihr Kleid ist blau karriert und weiß;

Mit Griffeln brennt sie sich das Haar,

Und Sonntags geht sie oben klar.

Ihr Schatz und der ist Kanonier,

Er steht des abends vor der Tür,

Sehr lange wartet er vorm Haus,

Am Tag fährt er Kanonen aus.

Auguste 

Although Auguste is only from the country,

she has learned all sorts of stuff:

cooks, washes and irons, sews and mends,

at night she stitches cloth strips.

She loves going out for shopping,

returns back home mostly too late,

And says, when Mother scolds,

"There were so many people there."

Meine Auguste ist eine Massepuppe aus den 30ern.

My Auguste of the 1930s, a composition doll with jointed limbs.

Oder vielleicht doch lieber diese Puppenstubenpuppe aus Porzellan aus den 20ern?

Or is this porcelain doll from the 1920s a more appropriate Auguste?
